PROFILE

Bureau69 is an architecture and design studio founded in 2003 in Sicily by Massimiliano Strano and established in the U.K. starting in 2018. The office collaborates and operates joint ventures in different countries with a focus on contemporary architecture, modern crafted interiors, and furniture design.

We specialise in high-end residential projects where we bring an authentic and unique outstanding design for new buildings, home renovations, and refurbishment projects.

We also have considerable experience in historical buildings and urban design. We are proud to have coordinated complex surveys and restoration projects for ancient Italian churches and palazzos from XVII, XVIII, and XIX centuries.

Since its first establishment, Bureau69 has been awarded for innovative design, and our projects have been published and exhibited in different countries.

Denys Lasdun

Max Strano graduated in Italy in Architecture and Planning (MArch), and he is a fully qualified architect registered in the U.K. at ARB (Architects Registration Board) and in Italy (OAPPCCT). He is also a Chartered RIBA Architect and a Passive House designer.

Max has built his professional career in different countries: Spain, Italy, Brazil, United Kingdom. He has acquired much experience in high-end residential projects working mainly as a freelance and self-employed Architect. The wide range of diverse experiences gave him a comprehensive knowledge of a variety of architectural and construction systems. Max is committed to high results and he is constantly updating in architecture and other areas of interest. He is interested in a totally sustainable and responsible approach to architecture and supports Passive House projects.

Max is a polyhedral and creative designer: in his career he has successfully participated, as a lead architect, in several international design competitions, achieving awards and honorable mentions.

At Bureau69 we prefer working with a holistic approach considering the design and feasibility of the project at each phase. Since the early stages, we have worked in close collaboration with planners, engineers, craftspeople, and contractors in order to deliver perfectly detailed projects, with the objective of complying with the highest standards in terms of quality (highest efficiency and performance) and durability (low maintenance costs).

STEVE BROWN RIBA

Steve is an architect with over thirty years of experience in Europe and Asia. He has led the design of numerous projects, many won in international design competitions, whilst holding senior design positions at leading architecture firms Farrells, Gensler and Aukett Swanke. An international body of work includes residential, commercial, educational and transport buildings as well as urban masterplans. Steve has worked in UK and Asia with completed projects in UK, Hong Kong, Russia and Turkey.

PAUL TIERNEY RIBA

Paul Tierney has over 15 years experience specialising in private housing, residential developments and educational work. He has designed some of West London’s most creative homes, and was the project architect on Notting Hill Prep Westway – the first school ever to be built under a motorway. Paul combines simple, elegant design with strong technical know-how. He is an expert in contract, planning and project-management. Paul is a member of the RIBA and ARB, and delighted to be an Architecture Ambassador for the RIBA National Schools Programme.

Architetto laureata in Italia e registrata all’esercizio della professione presso l’Ordine degli Architetti della Provincia di Catania. Svolge da oltre venti anni attivita’ professionale nel campo della progettazione architettonica, occupandosi di nuove costruzioni residenziali, progettazione di interni e spazi commerciali. Esercita con particolare attenzione alla ecosostenibilita’, con un forte credo nel recupero del suolo in ambito urbano e al contenimento della cementificazione in area agricola.

I was always attracted by the way Max imagines the space. He really likes materials and technological details. He is passionate about new solutions and bespoke solutions. His projects have always something different: I can say that I know well all his work and never I saw something already seen in other projects.

Bureau69 worked both in the design and in construction phase with extreme competence and excellent management of the entire process. Max also design a bespoke interior design, creating oak furniture of remarkable quality and elegance, giving at the whole space a strong contemporary style. As a client I consider myself fully satisfied of the total result.

Max perfectly understood our need and also in this case he shown us another “weird” project. A strange concept from a client point of you and a complex job from carpenter and builder point of view. We accepted also in this case and I think the result is stunning. We really recommend Max for his expertise in technical issues, his design skills, his friendly attitude.

The apartments designed and created by Bureau69 achieve a very clever and stylish use of space. The company offers a very professional service with excellent communication. Highly recommended

Many of the ideas were innovative and unique that have given character and originality to the apartment: Max designed the general layout, changing the original one to allow the natural light to enter in the central part of the space which was without. He chooses each material used on the decoration and renovation, and the colours of painting, resin, furniture.

Max is very particular, perfectionist Profesional very communicative and punctual trustworthy modern architect , with a heart of gold . Unfortunately the project didn’t go ahead as family disputes started.., but we will definitely 110% we will hire Max again on our next project ! Keep up the the good work Max we love you ! I contacted Max to assist with the redesign of a house that we had just purchased. I received an immediate reply and after a telephone consultation we quickly organised a face to face consultation, which lasted over 2 hours and was very thorough and insightful.
