bureau69 architects is an award-winning architecture studio in Catania (Sicily), established in 2003 by Max Strano, a registered architect in Sicily (Ordine degli Architetti di Catania).
After a long-term work experience in various countries (Spain, Brazil, United Kingdom), Max returned to Sicily and developed the new studio around the concept of a virtual table. In fact, today the studio is conceived as a network of professionals based in various countries focusing on architecture, crafted interiors, project management, supporting property investors.
The studio specialises in high-end residential and hospitality projects for new buildings, renovations, and refurbishment projects. We also have considerable experience in renovation and reuse of historical buildings, and in urban regeneration design projects.

Max (Massimiliano) Strano graduated in Architecture and Planning (MArch) in Italy with a top grade. Since 2000, he has been a registered architect in Sicily (OAPPCCT), and since 2017 in the U.K. has been a Chartered RIBAArchitect. He is also a Passivhaus designer.
Max has built his career based on the fundamental principle that architects must possess wide-ranging skills (Vitruvium). Also, he is convinced that cultural mixture brings diverse points of view, which certainly leads to more resolved projects. Therefore, over the years, he created relationships and work opportunities with other professionals from other cultures and backgrounds. As well as he has played different roles in the construction industry: architect, interior designer, site architect, project and construction manager, and business developer.
After graduation in 1999, he moved to Barcelona (Spain) and worked at Alfredo Arribas Arquitectos Asociados. In 2003, he started his architecture studio in Catania, working mainly on historical building renovations, and small architectural projects. In 2006 he began a cultural exchange and collaboration with Jacob Goldemberg in Rio de Janeiro. During his stay in Catania, he participated in international design competitions involving other professionals and fueling precociously the idea of an international network. In 2016 he obtained assignments for some projects in Brazil and subsequently moved to England. In London, he worked as a freelance both as an architect and as a project manager for local construction companies. In 2021 he was invited to work as a Project Architect with leadership at the studio Konigsberger Vannucchi Arquitetura in Sao Paolo, Brazil.
The diverse roles played throughout his career gave him a comprehensive knowledge of various architectural and construction systems. Max is committed to high results and he is constantly updating in architecture and other areas of interest. He is interested in a fully sustainable approach to design, which he calls responsible architecture, and he supports the Passivhaus standards.
Max speaks Italian, English, Spanish and Portuguese.

Our international design team work with a holistic approach prioritising the design and considering feasibility at each phase. Since the early stages of the project, we collaborate with planners, engineers, and suppliers, to deliver perfectly detailed projects, to comply with the highest standards in terms of quality (highest performance) and durability (low maintenance costs).
STEVE BROWN RIBA
Steve is an architect with over thirty years of experience in Europe and Asia. He has led the design of numerous projects, many won in international design competitions, whilst holding senior design positions at leading architecture firms Farrells, Gensler and Aukett Swanke. An international body of work includes residential, commercial, educational and transport buildings as well as urban masterplans. Steve has worked in UK and Asia with completed projects in UK, Hong Kong, Russia and Turkey.
PAUL TIERNEY RIBA
Paul Tierney has over 15 years experience specialising in private housing, residential developments and educational work. He has designed some of West London’s most creative homes, and was the project architect on Notting Hill Prep Westway – the first school ever to be built under a motorway. Paul combines simple, elegant design with strong technical know-how. He is an expert in contract, planning and project-management. Paul is a member of the RIBA and ARB, and delighted to be an Architecture Ambassador for the RIBA National Schools Programme.
SAFBUILD Ltd Contractor / Supplier
Safbuild Ltd is a distributor in the UK for high-end bespoke made-in-Italy products for fit-out (bespoke joinery, marble and natural stones, ceramic tiles, glass doors, sanitary ware, etc.), extremely innovative single room mechanical ventilation systems with heat recovery and many other outstanding products for indoor air quality and energy saving. Safbuild is based in London and trades in all the UK. The added value is our project management capability, the full customer assistance and the expertise in managing new projects and new challenges. All the materials are checked by us as soon as they are delivered on site in order to verify their full integrity and compliance.
ROSAMARIA TOMASELLO Architect
Architect graduated in Italy and registered to practice the profession with the Order of Architects of the Province of Catania. You have been working professionally in the field of architectural design for over twenty years, dealing with new residential buildings, interior design and commercial spaces. She practices with particular attention to eco-sustainability, with a strong belief in land recovery in urban areas and in the containment of overbuilding in agricultural areas.
