Bureau69 Architects is an architecture and design studio founded in 2003 in Italy by Max Strano and registered in the U.K. in 2018. Based in South East London (U.K.) the micro office collaborates and operates in different countries with a focus on contemporary architecture, modern crafted interiors and bespoke furniture.

We specialise in high-end residential projects where we bring an authentic and clear design for new buildings, home renovations and refurbishments. 

We also have considerable experience in historical buildings and urban design. We are also proud to have coordinated complex surveys and restoration projects for ancient churches and palazzos from XVII, XVIII, and XIX centurie.

Italian architect max strano

Max Strano is the founder and the principal architect at Bureau69 Architects. He graduated in Italy in Architecture and Planning (MArch), and he is a fully qualified architect registered in the U.K. at ARB (Architects Registration Board) and also in Italy (OAPPCCT). He is also a Chartered RIBA Architect. 

Max has built his professional career in different countries: Spain, Italy, Brazil, United Kingdom. He has acquired much experience in high/end residential projects working mainly as freelance / self-employed Architect. The wide range of diverse experiences gave him a comprehensive knowledge of a variety of architectural and construction systems. Max is committed to high results and he is constantly updating in architecture and other areas of interest. He is interested in a total sustainable approach to architecture and PassivHaus projects.

Max is a polyhedral and creative designer with relevant organisational and managerial skills. In his career he has successfully participated, as a lead architect, in several international design competitions, achieving awards and honourable mentions.




At Bureau69 Architects, we prefer working with an holistic approach considering the design and feasibility of the project at each phase. Since the early stages, we work in close collaboration with planners, engineers, craftspeople, contractors in order to deliver perfectly detailed projects, with the objective of complying with the highest standards in terms of quality (performance) and durability (low maintenance).


Steve is an architect with over thirty years of experience in Europe and Asia.  He has led the design of numerous projects, many won in international design competitions, whilst holding senior design positions at leading architecture firms Farrells, Gensler and Aukett Swanke. An international body of work includes residential, commercial, educational and transport buildings as well as urban masterplans. Steve has worked in UK and Asia with completed projects in UK, Hong Kong, Russia and Turkey.


Paul Tierney has over 15 years experience specialising in private housing, residential developments and educational work. He has designed some of West London’s most creative homes, and was the project architect on Notting Hill Prep Westway – the first school ever to be built under a motorway. Paul combines simple, elegant design with strong technical know-how. He is an expert in contract, planning and project-management. Paul is a member of the RIBA and ARB, and delighted to be an Architecture Ambassador for the RIBA National Schools Programme.


Lorenzo is a Senior Planner in a leading London planning consultancy with extensive experience in projects across the South East of England. He is specialised in residential, commercial and mixed-use developments. He offers clear-cut advice at all stages of the planning process, from the preparation of tailored appraisals identifying the development potential of a site to the submission of complex planning applications. He is also a trusted consultant for the submission of appeals to the Planning Inspectorate. An effective team player and project manager, he routinely helps developers in unlocking the full value of difficult sites. Key to his approach is the ability to build positive relationships with local planning authorities at the outset of negotiations.

Safbuild Ltd is a distributor in the UK for high-end bespoke made-in-Italy products for fit-out (bespoke joinery, marble and natural stones, ceramic tiles, glass doors, sanitary ware, etc.), extremely innovative single room mechanical ventilation systems with heat recovery and many other outstanding products for indoor air quality and energy saving. Safbuild is based in London and trades in all the UK. The added value is our project management capability, the full customer assistance and the expertise in managing new projects and new challenges. All the materials are checked by us as soon as they are delivered on site in order to verify their full integrity and compliance.
